Envoy: Turkey Eyes Working with Iran, Russia for Regional Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish ambassador to Iran Reza Hakan Tekin highlighted the necessity for his country’s cooperation with Iran and Russia to ensure security in the region.

Turkey believes that cooperation with Iran and Russia for settling regional conflicts would be a major step in restoring and stabilizing security in the region, the Turkish ambassador said on Sunday in a meeting with Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

He also expressed the hope that Turkey, Russia and Iran would manage to bridge their differences when it comes to achieving a joint goal, namely regional security.

For his part, the top Iranian lawmaker deplored the serious threat that terrorist groups pose to the region, calling for joint action by influential countries, like Iran and Turkey, to tackle the problem.

He also noted that restoration of calm to Turkey following a futile military coup has provided an opportunity for Tehran and Ankara to strengthen relations.

Back in July, Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan’s government foiled the coup, launched by a faction in the armed forces.

The military action blamed by Ankara on US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen has rattled Turkey’s relations with the US and the European Union.
