TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian popular soccer team, Estaqlal, beat Rah Ahan 3-1 at Tehran’s Azadi stadium Sunday evening, moving one step upwards to the second position in Iran Pro League (IPL).
Esteqlal’s superior position was established at the 12th minute of the game with Khosro Heydari’s cross from right, which was headed in by Mohammad Qazi.
Rah Ahan’s equalizer goal was scored in the second half, as Behnam Barzai’s escape turned to a neat pass from right into a goal a few minutes to the hour mark.
Esteqlal’s Trinidadian defender Jlloyd Samuel, however, restored the Blues through lead with a header in the 67th minute and a penalty kick by midfielder Javad Nekounam increased the gap three minutes before the final whistle.
