Iranian Diplomat Calls for Enhancement of Economic Ties with Ghana

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister hailed the growing relations between Tehran and Accra, but insisted that the two nations should exploit their potential to further broaden their economic ties.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian called for efforts to enhance the level of economic relations between Tehran and Accra.

He made the comments in a meeting with visiting Ghanaian Deputy Foreign Minister Kwesi Quartey, here in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomat alluded to the growing trend in the bilateral relations between the two nations and the good progress they have made in diverse fields of cooperation, but stressed that the economic relations do not match Tehran-Accra amicable ties.

The visiting Ghanaian deputy minister, for his part, described Iran as an “important and developed” country, adding that the African nation seeks to use the Islamic Republic’s experience and potential for development.

A high-ranking delegation from the African country, led by Ghana’s Minister of State at the Presidency Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has travelled to Tehran to participate in the 5th Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Ghana.

The fifth Iran-Ghana Joint Commission kicked off in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, a day after the commission’s experts discussed the plans for the expansion of Tehran-Accra ties.
