Yemenis Winner of Saudi-Led War: Iran Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani rejected the claim that the Saudi-led coalition had achieved its military goals in Yemen, saying that the war on the Arabian Peninsula country ended in an "ignominious defeat" of the Saudi regime.

"The winner of the (battle) field is the Yemeni nation, who, through their resistance, made the aggressors regret (the invasion)," Larijani said, addressing an open session of the parliament on Wednesday.

He added that the way the 28-day war on Yemen ended conveyed a message, which was "the failure of the childish military operation in Yemen".

Larijani said from the beginning of the war on Yemen, the Islamic Republic repeatedly stressed that the aggression is in line with the objectives of the Zionist regime and that it would yield no results but the "erosion of Muslims' power."

The Saudi-led coalition, which has bombarded Yemen for nearly a month, announced that its military operation "Decisive Storm" ended on Tuesday.

Ahmed al-Asiri, the spokesman of the coalition, claimed on Tuesday that it had achieved its military goals in Yemen and a new operation called "Renewal of Hope" would begin.

He called the new operation a "combination of political, diplomatic and military action".

Asiri hailed "Decisive Storm", which had been launched on March 26, as a "success".

According to the spokesman of the Yemeni Army, the Saudi-led war on the Arabian Peninsula country killed 2,051 people, most of them civilians.
