Suspected Syrian Militants Fire 3 Rockets into East Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Suspected Syrian militants fired three rockets at northeast Lebanon Monday which struck the highlands of the town of Hermel.

A security source told the Daily Star the rockets crashed in barren terrain around 11:15 am, causing no damage or casualties.

It was the first such attack in months. Most of the militants who had been based in the rugged Qalamoun region on the Lebanon-Syria border were either killed or ousted in a major Hezbollah-led offensive earlier this year.

The attack comes amid a crackdown on militants following the Nov. 12 twin suicide bombings that left 46 people killed and more than 200 wounded on a bustling market street in the Beirut southern suburb of Burj al-Barajneh.

More than 20 suspected militants have been arrested since the crackdown began.
