Iran Handball Team to Play Bahrain at Olympics Qualifier Semis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will play Bahrain in the semi-final round of the 2015 Asian Qualification Tournament on Wednesday.

In the match held at the Duhail Handball Sports Hall in Doha, Bahrain defeated South Korea 31-30 and topped Group A.

Iran who finished in second place in Group B behind host Qatar, will play Bahrain on Wednesday to book a place in the final match. 

The Iranian team started the campaign with a 39-31 win over Oman.

Irfan Smajlagic’s men then defeated Uzbekistan 33-18, Japan 31-27, and Saudi Arabia 30-24.

Iran suffered a 32-17 loss to Qatar.

The event kicked off in Doha, Qatar, on November 14 and will finish on November 23.

The gold medal winner in the competition will qualify for the Olympics.

The handball tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will consist of twelve men and women teams each.
