Iran Comes 4th at Asian Water Polo Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran finished in fourth place at the Asian Water Polo Championship at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium indoor pool.

Iran lost to China on penalties in the bronze medal match on Sunday after the two teams drew 7-7 in regular time.

Iran started the campaign with an 8-4 victory over Singapore but lost to titleholder Kazakhstan 14-4 in its second match.

The Persians beat Hong Kong 19-8 and qualified for the knockout stage.

The team, headed by Serbian coach Aleksandar Ciric, defeated Saudi Arabia 15-6 to book a place in the semis but lost to host Japan 15-6.

Japan will face Kazakhstan in the final match.
