Plans Devised to Counteract Possible JCPOA Breach: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Iranian security official lashed out at Zionist lobbies for attempting to get in the way of US implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying the country is geared up to respond to any type of violation of the nuclear agreement.

Iran has formulated plans to react to any “limited and flagrant” violation of the JCPOA, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said on Saturday.

He made the comments in a meeting with Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, in Tehran.

Shamkhani also referred to the nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) as a testimony to Iran’s soft power vis-à-vis the hegemonic system.

Taking a swipe at the Zionist lobbies for throwing a wrench in the implementation of the JCPOA by the US, Shamkhani underlined that Iran will forcefully protect its legal rights.

His comments came against a backdrop of a controversial decision by the US Congress to pass a bill extending the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for ten more years.

Earlier in December, the US Senate voted 99-0 to extend the ISA for another decade. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives nearly unanimously in November, and congressional aides said they expected Obama would sign it.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has warned that implementation of ISA will constitute a “clear and flagrant violation of the JCPOA” and draw a “very harsh reaction” from Tehran.
