Turkey Sets Up New Military Post in Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Turkish military forces have set up a new observation post in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib, Turkey’s army announced Saturday.

The 9th observation post is 88 kilometers (55 miles) away from Turkey-Syria common border, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent in the region.

Reporters say they saw a convoy of 100 Turkish military vehicle moving to the Morek region to establish the post.

Under the Astana peace process, Turkey would gradually establish 12 observation posts around Idlib. According to Turkey’s General Staff, the first post was established on October 13, 2017.

Iran and Turkey, together with Russia, are known as the guarantors of a trilateral mechanism to maintain ceasefire in certain parts of Syria.
