Esteghlal, Persepolis Play Out Goalless Draw
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal and Persepolis football teams played out a goalless draw in Week 8 of the Iran Professional League (IPL) on Thursday evening.
In the match held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, the Iranian giants showed a boring performance in front of about 80,000 spectators.
A win over arch-rival Esteghlal could be morale-boosting for Persepolis since the Reds will meet Al Sadd of Qatar on October 2 in Doha at the first leg of the AFC Champions League semi-final.
Elsewhere, Sepahan defeated Naft Masjed Soleyman 2-0 thanks to a brace from Kiros Stanlley and advanced to the top of the Iran Professional League (IPL) table on goal difference ahead of Persepolis.
