Iranian Servicemen Visit Oman, Attend Military, Sports Events

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian naval forces on board the Navy’s 60th flotilla visited Oman for a friendly and training mission that included military meetings and sports events.

The Iranian Navy’s 60th flotilla, comprising Bayandor destroyer as well as Lavan and Busheher warships berthed at Port Sultan Qaboos, the largest port in Oman’s capital of Muscat, on Saturday.

During its four-day stay at the Omani port, the Iranian naval forces held meetings with the sultanate’s military officials and attended an athletic competition of the Omani armed forces.

In a ceremony held above the deck of Lavan warship and attended by a number of foreign ambassadors and military attachés residing in Oman, Iran’s Ambassador to Muscat Mohammad Reza Noori Shahroudi highlighted the close cultural and religious bonds between Iran and Oman, saying the bilateral ties are growing in various fields.

The ambassador noted that the military and defense cooperation between Iran and Oman are further being enhanced by the establishment of the joint commission of military friendship and regular reciprocal visits by military delegations.

The commander of the Iranian flotilla also said in the ceremony that the purpose of the visit was to convey the message of peace and friendship from Iran and help preserve security across the region.
