Iran to Become Self-Sufficient in Producing Health Supplies Soon: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini underlined the organization's efforts to contain the coronavirus epidemic in Iran and said the country will be self-sufficient in producing health supplies in two months.

On the first day after the coronavirus outbreak, a task force was formed in the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini and all capacities of the organization were mobilized to combat the virus, Mohammad Mokhber said on Wednesday.

“Currently, the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini produces 300,000 masks, 300,000 liters of disinfectants, and 50 oxygen concentrators on a daily basis as well as 60,000 hospital gowns per month and delivers them to the Ministry of Health to be distributed,” he said.

“Within the next two months, we will certainly make Iran self-sufficient in producing health supplies and also turn the country into an exporter of such products,” the official went on to say.

Medical staffs in all 31 provinces of Iran have been working tirelessly over the past weeks to contain the novel coronavirus.

First detected in Wuhan city in central China in December, the coronavirus has spread to more than 150 countries.

More than 200,000 have been infected globally, according to the WHO. Of those, about 80,000 have recovered.
