Aerial Images Reveal Extent of Damage from Flooding North of Italy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Aerial images captured on Sunday show the scope of flooding in an area between the cities of Gaggio and Nonantola, in the province of Modena, north of Italy.

Large expanses were completely inundated by floodwaters following heavy rain that caused the bursting of the Panaro river banks.

Rescue operations were underway in Nonantola, near Modena, and the surrounding area on Sunday, after the Panaro river burst its banks amid severe weather conditions. Extensive flooding in the town of Nonantola and nearby fields, as well as the point where the river broke through an embankment could be seen from a fire service helicopter.

Rescue forces were seen helping people evacuate via canoe as roads and fields were deeply swamped in water.

Northern Italy has been hit by critical weather for two days, with heavy rain, snowfall and strong winds.
