TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for promotion of ties between Iran and Turkey and underlined the importance of the two sides’ cooperation in settling regional issues.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday evening, Rouhani referred to Tehran-Ankara cooperation in regional and international issues, including resolving the Syrian crisis through the Astana talks, and stressed the continuation of this cooperation.
“Cooperation between Iran and Turkey, as two important countries in the region, can be effective in resolving regional problems and crises,” he said.
Rouhani congratulated the government and people of Turkey on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, and said, “Relations between the two countries are based on friendship and intimacy, and the development of cooperation between the two countries can help strengthen friendly relations and playing a better role in the region.”
The Iranian president described the sincere, friendly relations with Turkey, as a neighboring and Muslim country, of great importance for Iran and emphasized the development and deepening of relations with the country in various political, economic and trade fields.
Referring to the plans made to hold the 28th Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Iran and Turkey this year, Rouhani mentioned the Joint Commission as a roadmap for economic and trade relations between the two countries and expressed hope that the successful holding of the meeting would further enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation and trade and commodity exchanges between the two countries.
Stressing the need to take advantage of all capacities for cooperation between the two countries to develop and deepen bilateral relations, the President said that the use of the capacities and capabilities of the private sector and economic companies operating in the two countries can help achieve this goal.
Referring to the widespread outbreak of a new wave of COVID-19 in different countries including Iran and Turkey, Rouhani underlined the need for the two countries to work together to combat coronavirus and share experiences and capabilities in fighting the disease.
In another part of his conversation with Erdogan, the Iranian president referred to the recent developments and terrorist acts of the Zionist Regime in the region, as well as nuclear terrorism, and said, “Cooperation among regional countries is essential to ensure security, peace and stability.
“We consider the presence of the usurper Zionist Regime in the region dangerous and a serious confrontation with it is necessary," he said.
Erdogan also congratulated the government and people of Iran on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing Ankara's serious resolve to develop and deepen friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In this phone call, Erdogan expressed satisfaction that the cooperation between the two countries has continued even during the outbreak of the coronavirus.
