TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has traveled to China to take part in the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries.

Heading a political delegation, Amirabdollahian left Tehran for Tunxi in Anhui province, east of China, on Tuesday morning.

The meeting, to be held on March 30 and 31, will reportedly focus on humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and call on the US to return the Afghan people's assets.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced on Monday that foreign ministers or representatives from Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are scheduled to attend the meeting.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will host the meeting, and acting foreign minister of the Afghan interim government Amir Khan Muttaqi will also be attending the gathering. The foreign ministers of Indonesia and Qatar have also been invited to join as special guests, according to Wang Wenbin.

Wang Yi visited Afghanistan last week in a trip that many foreign media described as surprising.

Iran has repeatedly stressed the need for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan in order to ensure that country’s domestic stability and regional security.
