2021 Deaflympics: Iran’s Flagbearer Seidi Wins Gold
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s flagbearer in the 2021 Deaflympics opening ceremony Mehrdad Seidi won a gold medal in Caxias do Sul, Brazil on Wednesday.
He defeated his Ukrainian rival in the men’s judo -100kg final.
Amir Mohammad Daftari had won Iran’s first gold in judo in the men’s -73kg weight class.
Iranian judokas Hossein Allahkarimi also seized a silver medal in the -90kg weight category and Masoud Rastegar bagged a bronze in the +100kg.
The Deaflympics had initially been scheduled to take place from December 5 to 21 in 2021, but was postponed due to COVID-19 complications.
There are 209 events in 17 sports on the Deaflympics program.
