Iranian Aid Convoy Attacked near Iraq-Syria Border

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian convoy of 25 trucks carrying food, including flour and rice, was targeted by an aerial attack while en route from Iraq's Anbar province to Syria's Deir ez-Zur.

The attack, which occurred near the Albu Kamal border crossing, included firing of three rockets at the convoy, but only one hit a truck without causing any casualties, according to Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network.

The convoy was confirmed to only be carrying humanitarian aid and had obtained the necessary legal approvals from Syrian authorities.

In December, former Israeli military chief of staff confirmed that Israel was behind a November attack on an Iranian fuel convoy near the Iraq-Syria border.

The fuel convoy was entering Syria through the Qa'im border crossing when it was targeted and at least two tankers were destroyed.
