Israeli Treatment of Khader Adnan Crime against Humanity: Iranian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry denounced the Zionist regime’s detention and inhumane treatment of Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan, which resulted in his ultimate death, as a brazen example of a crime against humanity.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Nasser Kanaani reacted to the death of Khader Adnan, an activist affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group who passed away in an Israeli prison after nearly three months on hunger strike.

Kanaani said the martyrdom of the Palestinian inmate displays the righteousness and oppressed nature of the Palestinian nation’s resistance.

“The way the Zionist regime apprehended and treated that Palestinian citizen inhumanely is a clear example of the inhumane and violent behavior the Zionist regime has shown against the Palestinian nation and fighters in an organized and extensive manner during over the past seven decades and a clear example of crime against humanity,” the Iranian spokesman said.

He also denounced the muted response from the international community and human rights organizations to the Israeli crimes, saying the silence will embolden the apartheid Zionist regime.

The spokesman also lauded the Palestinian nation’s dignified resistance against the Zionist regime’s occupation and anti-human atrocities, expressing his condolences to the family of Adnan and the resistance groups, particularly the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Adnan died in an Israeli prison after nearly three months on a hunger strike. He “refused to undergo medical tests and receive medical treatment” and “was found unconscious in his cell” in the early morning on Tuesday, the Israeli prison service said.

Adnan began his hunger strike shortly after being arrested on February 5.

He had gone on hunger strike several times after previous arrests, including a 55-day strike in 2015 to protest his arrest under so-called administrative detention, in which suspects are held indefinitely by the Israeli regime without charge or trial.
