Iran’s Late Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian Laid to Rest

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran laid to rest its Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian south of Tehran, concluding days of funeral processions attended by millions across multiple cities following tragic demise of a number of officials in a helicopter crash.

Amirabdollahian, along with President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others, was martyred in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran on May 19, marking a profound loss for the nation.

In a solemn ceremony in the town of Shahr-Rey in Tehran province, tens of thousands paid their respects on Thursday afternoon, culminating in his burial at the shrine of Shah Abdolazim.

Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, present at the ceremony, hailed Amirabdollahian as a martyr, emphasizing his role in upholding the revolutionary spirit within the foreign ministry.

Echoing this sentiment, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani assured continuity in Iran's foreign policy trajectory, stating, "there will be no disruption in Iran's rapid movement in the field of foreign policy and international relations."

"The loss of Amirabdollahian is certainly a loss for Iran's diplomatic system, but the Islamic Republic of Iran is a system based on institutions and basic approaches in the field of relations and foreign policy arising from the thoughts and ideals of the Imam [Khomeini], the principled approach of the Eminent Leader [Ayatollah Khamenei] and the basic principles in the Constitution."

Kanaani underscored the resilience of Iran's political system, highlighting the global participation and outpouring of condolences at the highest levels during the funeral proceedings. The diverse representation and numerous messages of solidarity, he noted, attest to Iran's enduring stature on the world stage.

In reaffirming Iran's commitment to constructive engagement, Kanaani emphasized, "there will definitely not be any interruption in the forward movement of the Islamic Republic of Iran and constructive interactions and cooperation of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the countries and the international community."
