Iranian, US Teams Lodged in Separate Halls during Rome Talks: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied rumors about direct negotiations between Iran and the US in Rome, saying delegations from the two sides have been accommodated in separate halls with the Omani foreign minister acting as intermediary.

The second round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US got underway in Italy on Saturday.

Delegations from the two sides, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, have started the fresh round of talks at a diplomatic site of Oman in Rome.

In comments after the start of the talks, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed media stories about direct interaction between the two teams.

He said the Iranian and American delegations have been lodged in separate halls at the Omani ambassador’s residence in Rome.

The spokesman noted that Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi is exchanging messages between the two sides, just like the previous round of talks in Muscat.
