President Pledges Iran’s Support in Tackling Terrorism in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday hailed the country as a “zone of stability” in the restive Middle East region, stressing that Iran’s administration and Armed Forces will assist the regional states in the fight against terrorism.

“Today, tumult and insecurity as well as terror and panic in our region have unfortunately plagued everywhere,” President Rouhani said on Monday morning, addressing Iranian military units during a military parade to mark the country’s Sacred Defense Week.

Describing Iran as the “zone of stability in the restive Middle East,” the president stressed, “Iran has always helped the oppressed people and will do that (in future), (Iran) will put the terrorists in their place.”

He added that while the regional countries continue to tackle the threat of terrorism, the Iranian Armed Forces and administration will assist them in that battle.

Rouhani further underlined that Iran now possesses the “strongest armed forces in the region” thanks to the innovation, invention of new weapons and above all, motivation in the Iranian forces.

“The administration will do its utmost to support the Armed Forces and will do whatever it can to fortify them,” he pointed out.

Following the president’s speech, various units of the Iranian Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Basij (volunteer) forces and the Islamic Republic of Iran Police staged military parades and displayed their latest defensive achievements.

In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and Sacred Defense Week is held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war. Sacred Defense Week begins on Shahrivar 31 in the Iranian calendar (September 22 this year), which is the day Iraq invaded Iran and began the imposed war on the country in 1980.
