Iran’s Zarif, Japan’s Abe Hold Talks in Tokyo

TOKYO (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe discussed a range of issues at a meeting in Tokyo on Thursday.

According to Tasnim dispatches, Zarif and Abe talked about Tehran-Tokyo relations as well as regional and international developments.

Zarif, who is in Japan on the last leg of an Asian tour, had a separate meeting on Thursday morning with members of a Japanese parliamentary friendship group, who were all members of the ruling Liberal Democrat Party.

Accompanied by diplomats and business officials, Zarif had a working breakfast at Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel at the invitation of Masahiko Komura, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives and a former minister with experience of leading four ministries of foreign affairs, finance, defense and justice.

The two sides’ talks were focused on the expansion of parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Japan and the issues of mutual interest.

Heading a mainly trade delegation, Zarif arrived in Japan early Wednesday, after visiting India and China.

In comments upon his arrival in Tokyo, the top Iranian diplomat stated that economic issues are high on the agenda of his trip.
