Iran Unveils New Homegrown Battle Rifle

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran unveiled a new type of battle rifle designed and manufactured by domestic experts to replace Heckler & Koch G3 assault rifles currently used by the country’s Armed Forces.

In a ceremony held in Tehran on Friday, the rifle named “Zolfaqar”, weighing 3.5 kilograms and presumably in 7.62 mm caliber, was put on display.

The operational range of the weapon is up to 400 meters without riflescope and reaches up to 800 meters with the gear.

Since all materials used for the manufacture of this weapon exist inside the country, the cost of its production is relatively low.

The Iranian military forces have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of equipment, from firearms to advanced drones.

Tehran has already made it clear that its defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
