Iran Sympathizes with Greece over Wildfire Deaths

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed condolences to Greece over deaths in wildfires near capital Athens.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bahram Qassemi offered Iran’s sympathy to the Greek government and nation over dozens of deaths in the blazes.

At least 74 people have died in the wildfires in the Attica region around Athens, in Greece's worst fire disaster in more than a decade.

Flames fanned by strong winds devastated the seaside village of Mati, burning homes and cars.

A local mayor has told the BBC there are fears the death toll could rise to 100.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has declared three days of national mourning.
