Iran’s Ghanbari Wins Gold at World Powerlifting Championship
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mehdi Ghanbari from Iran claimed a gold medal at the 5th World Powerlifting Championship held in Moscow, Russia.
He took gold in the -140kg weight category in bench press discipline, lifting 245kg and setting a new record.
Iran sent a total of 22 powerlifters to the competition.
The competition, organized by World Federation of Powerlifting, brought about 3,000 powerlifters in the Russian capital.
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift.
