Iran to Replace Point-of-Sale Terminals with Smartphone Payment System

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdolnasser Hemmati said the county will soon replace payments via traditional Point-of-sale (POS) Terminals with Smartphone Payment System for shopping at stores.

He said the move is aimed at facilitating e-payments and better observing the health protocols during the coronavirus days.

“This method of payment is compatible with valid international standards and makes it possible, in a very secure manner, for customers to put the data of their bank cards into their mobile phones and make payments without using POS machines,” Hemmati said.

“Using mobile phones to make payments while shopping can not only facilitate payment for users, but also help observe the health protocols at a time of the coronavirus outbreak,” CBI Governor added.
