Ted Cruz Confronted at Restaurant over Gun Control after Texas School Shooting (+Video)

A group called Indivisible Houston posted a video of one of its board members, Benjamin Hernandez, confronting Cruz in a restaurant about his stance on gun control measures in the wake of the shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Cruz, a Texas Republican, had spoken earlier on Friday at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Leadership Forum where he argued that "What stops armed bad guys is armed good guys."

In a two-minute video shared on Twitter, Hernandez can first be seen posing for a photo with Cruz at Uptown Sushi, a Houston restaurant, before he begins asking him about gun laws, though the initial part of the audio is not entirely clear.

Cruz appeared to try to reassure Hernandez and explained his position. Hernandez asked him "What about background checks? What about background checks?"

"Is that so hard?" he said as Cruz suggested Hernandez was not interested in listening to him.

The two men engaged in a back and forth as Hernandez became more animated and security personnel approached him. Hernandez repeatedly asked Cruz "Why does this keep happening?" and the security personnel attempted to remove him from the restaurant.

"Why, when 19 children died?" Hernandez said as he was dragged way. "Nineteen children died. That is on your hands. That is on your hands."

Hernandez had attended a protest outside the NRA event earlier on Friday and tweeted: "Here in Houston, TX, attending the We Demand Justice Rally outside of the NRA convention. It's time to take action on protecting citizens over firearms."

During his speech on Friday, Cruz addressed the most recent mass shooting and similar tragedies, saying: "We know that many of these who seek to commit the most heinous crimes, they're isolated from human contact.

"They're living a virtual life in the absence of community and faith and love," the senator said.
