Iran Ready to Help Iraq’s Self-Sufficiency in Defense Industries

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani expressed the country’s readiness to assist Iraq in attaining self-sufficiency in defense industries.

In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Thabet Muhammad Al-Abasi, held in Tehran on Saturday, Brigadier General Ashtiani said Iran is prepared to share its experiences with Iraq to help the neighboring country become independent and self-sufficient in the defense industries.

“The Defense Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran would stand with you vigorously,” the Iranian defense minster told his Iraqi counterpart at a joint press conference.

He also warned of the “common threat” that the presence of terrorist groups inside Iraq and in the provinces bordering Iran poses to the national security of the two countries, stressing the need for closer military, intelligence and security cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.

For his part, the visiting Iraqi defense minister voiced his country’s determination to reorganize the armed forces after a long war against the Takfiri and terrorist groups, stressing that Iraq is willing to take advantage of Iran’s capacities for technical, technological and training cooperation in this regard.

In November 2022, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri expressed the country’s readiness to share its experiences in the war on terrorism and in the defense industry with Iraq to help the neighboring state’s security.
