Iraqi Resistance Strikes US Base in Syria near Qamishli: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi resistance fighters have reportedly carried out drone strikes on a US-occupied military facility near the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishli, along the Turkish border.
The attacks, directed at the Hemo base, situated west of Qamishli Airport, occurred early on Thursday, according to Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen news channel.
The report indicated that the Hemo base, which accommodates around 350 American soldiers, is considered vital for US occupation forces in Syria. It functions as a specialized training camp for the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
News of the attacks follows recent reports suggesting troop evacuations from the base due to resistance faction assaults. Sabereen News, linked to the Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), reported that Thursday’s operation marks the second raid on the Hemo base since October 7, when Israel launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
The surge in Iraqi resistance strikes on US military installations in Iraq and Syria reflects escalating anti-US sentiments in the region. These sentiments are fueled by Washington's support for Israeli aggression against Gaza. Israel initiated its war following a historic operation by the Gaza-based Hamas resistance group, responding to intensified Israeli atrocities against Palestinians.
Despite over 100 days of offensive actions resulting in significant Palestinian casualties, including over 24,000 deaths and 61,000 injuries, the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its objectives. The US, implicated in the Gaza conflict, has contributed by supplying weapons and intelligence support to Israel, and obstructing UN resolutions advocating for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.
