Capacities Provided by Army to Confront Threats: Iranian Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A senior Iranian Army commander said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran Army has provided the necessary capacities to confront any kind of threats to the country.

Commander of Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan made his remarks while visiting an army airborne division base in Kermanshah, West of Iran.

Pourdastan gave assurance that no threat can target the Islamic Republic, adding that the country’s armed Forces are fully prepared and constantly monitoring every moves of the enemies.

Responding to any possible threat, the commander cautioned that if the country is threatened, the armed forces will make the one who has threatened us regret.

His comments come while another high-ranking Ground Forces commander had earlier announced that the army forces had increased their presence along the country’s western borders amid mounting terror activities by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in neighboring Iraq.

Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari had pledged that the Army’s Ground Forces are fully prepared to get the upper hand in the region and to give crushing and timely responses to any possible threats.

On June 10, Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province fell into the hands of militants from the ISIL. The Takfiri (extremist terrorists’) attacks have reportedly forced more than half a million people in and around Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, to flee their homes.

Over the past days, Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists while thousands of Iraqi volunteers are now flocking to regions in and around Baghdad and other cities to join the battle against terrorists.
